How do I choose my breast shield size?

Your size depends on your nipple diameter. Your nipple should be measured at rest, and it's the exact size that matters, even if you only really know your size by how your nipple behaves in a breast shield.

My breasts are not the same size, what should I do?

This is very common! You can buy breast shields individually or choose the duo pack to combine two different sizes.

Are Polypus breast shields compatible with all breast pumps?

They are compatible with Spectra and Medela models via our connectors. Once you have the connectors, you can connect the kit to a large number of breast pumps.

Usage

How do I know if my breast shield is properly fitted?

Your nipple should remain centered, move straight without pulling the areola, and you should feel no pain or redness.

Is it normal for it to stick a little at first?

Yes, the soft silicone adapts to your body after a few washes. If you feel discomfort, a tiny drop of food-grade coconut oil can help with placement.

Care and lifespan

Do breast shields need to be sterilized?

Yes, before first use. After that, washing with hot water and mild soap is sufficient. You can sterilize them from time to time if you wish.

How do I care for my breast shields?

Wash them with a non-abrasive product, rinse well, and air dry.

You can also keep them in the fridge for 24 hours in an airtight container or bag between pumping sessions if needed.

How long can I keep them?

With proper care, you can use them throughout your breastfeeding journey as long as you don't decrease in size (you can lose up to 10 sizes during breastfeeding)
